Melissa has a friend who works for Senator Bennett and she gave us a tour of the Capitol Building. This was a great experience too. The building is beautiful and we got to sit in on a session of debating in the house gallery just before they voted on the 'Bail-out Bill". It was a big day at the Capitol.
This is the very center of the Capitol Building, the center of Washington DC, and, therefore, the center of the United States. It's said that if you touch it, you can feel a zing of power...
Zooming along in the metro.
We spent an afternoon at the DC Zoo. I took a picture of this gigantic lizard in honor of Eric. He thought it was amazing.

After the zoo we got temporarily lost looking for the metro station and ended up walking through this long tunnel with a narrow sidewalk. We had no idea where we were, but that's what made it exciting.
We made it to the other side of the tunnel (and eventually found the metro). All the beautiful green trees were so amazing! It reminded me of living in Washington state.
Kayaking on the Potomac River was another highlight. It was a gorgeous day and so much fun. Jon and Melissa took care of the babies for us too - really wonderful.

The Washington DC Temple was beautiful too. We had a delicious picnic lunch on the grass. The Temple was closed because of General Conference weekend, so we had the whole place to ourselves.
This is the brand new memorial at the Pentagon for the September 11th attacks. There is a "bench seat" for each person killed on the plane and in the Pentagon. They go in order from youngest to oldest. This memorial is interesting because the event actually took place right there - the portion of the Pentagon you see in the background is where the plane crashed.

Last but not least... the kitchen in Jon and Melissa's apartment where we ate many a delicious meal and talked and laughed. A very important place on our vacation. Thanks again Jon and Melis! We love you guys.
